Hurricane Maria Relief Efforts

Oct 03, 2017 | Posted in News

The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo extends its thoughts and prayers to those affected by Hurricane Maria, a devastating hurricane which made landfall in Puerto Rico as a Category 4 storm on September 20.

Already reeling from the impact of Hurricane Irma, which hit the region on September 10, Hurricane Maria is the worst hurricane to hit the U.S. territory since 1932. While the exact extent of the damage and the death toll remains unknown, the island’s more than 3 million residents lack sufficient food, water and fuel. They also face limited communication capability and widespread power outages. The U.S. Virgin Islands also endured significant damage due to the storm.

For anyone interested in supporting the relief efforts in the aftermath of this devastating hurricane, we have some resources to share with you. Our colleagues at the Community Foundation of Puerto Rico, or Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico, in partnership with Hispanics for Philanthropy, have established the Hurricane Relief Fund for Puerto Rico, Cuba and Florida to support the victims of Hurricane Maria as well as Hurricane Irma.
